Taagaabu was built in 1970 by some NTHI-people. Its birthday is on the 25th of October. The experience for the development and building of new cabins was so large that some experts could summarize NTHI's knowledge in one rule: dimension opulent! The toilet is strategically placed. Conventional technical terminology can not be used to describe the construction, but anyhow: it's good if you find it!

Taagaabu is situated on a south going hillside beneath Tåvåfjellet next to Norde Nysæterbekken, 600m upwards from the road between Storbudal and Bogensetra. If you come from north you will at least find this road!

There were not only 30 men helping with the construction of Taagaabu but also some women (three). They had to cook and warm up the tents for the frozen workers. It looks like some of the men got more attention than others, in the end all three of the women had chosen their husband among the 30.

An important name for the area around Taagaabu is Forelhogna. It's also called "Budalens Matterhorn". Forelhogna, next to Forelsjøen can be reached on a long daytrip from Taagaabu. You can pass indre Budal on the way, one of the most interesting alp valleys in Norway.

If you don't want to go that far, you can go up Tåvåfjellet with view over Trollheimen.

    Route description

There are many ways to reach Taagaabu.

The shortest way is from Storbudal farm. The car can be parked here - ask first. You can also take bus or train to Støren and then the bus to Budalen. But there is no bus during weekends - so probably you have to come back on a different way.

One alternative is to go from Singsås church, which however is longer and more demanding than the first one. Take the morning bus to Røros. Directly behind the church you will find a steep way up to Gammelvollen. From here you can follow the path to Taagaavollen and Vinterskaftet. Then go southwards along (or across) Tåvåfjellet.

Of course you can also take a longer trip and come from Røros!
