Stakkslettbua no longer has a stovetop, but there is a primus you can use to cook. Please remember to bring your own propane gas for the primus!

The dogs at the parking lot belongs to the nearby farm. Please get them to go home rather than follow you to the cabin!

Some of the wood is too big for the oven and needs to be split before it can be used.

Early spring 2013, the cabin group was looking for a new challenge. Stakkslettbua had been a problem for a long time, we wanted to solve that once and for all! We decided to completely tear down the old cabin, and build a new one from scratch. It is 30 years since we did this last, but our ambitions were high.
After a fair bit of planning and a little bit of luck, the construction work started on schedule. One year and one summer vacation after we closed the old cabin, we are proud to present the new version of Stakkslettbua for your enjoyment! We also wish to send a big thank you to all those who volunteered to help build the cabin!
From the parking lot it's 1,75km to the cabin. Follow the new road up to Kårvatnet first. Stakkslettbua is then placed 500m east of this lake slightly up on the hillside.
Stakkslettbua is surrounded by a good touring terrain with beautiful view. Inside the cabin it's light and comfortable and the exciting bedroom offers four floors. The cabin is perhaps by far the warmest of all cabins with 20 cm insulation in the floors, walls and ceilings. The outer cover is in pine and gives the building a great look.

It's possible to come to Stakkslettbua from Rindalsløa. If you are interested in hunting, you can buy a license for the area around Ruten at Kårøyan, the farm at the end of the road, close to the parking lot. Quite often Ruten with 1039m is the goal for a daytrip. There are some old military stations on the top and you have a nice view to the fjord. Downhill there are good telemark-possibilities.
In 2015 we even got a new boat up to the cabin, so bring your fishing equipment and catch your own dinner.

    Route description

By car you drive to Orkanger first and then towards Kyrksæterøra. Before you reach Kyrksæterøra you have to leave to Vinjeøra. Just after passing the first petrol station in Vinjeøra you swing left. It's now about 10km to the parking lot. The road is a pay road and you can drive on it in winter. You will find the parking lot next to Kårøyan.

NB! - There is a new road from Kårøyan directely towards the cabin. This road is private and MUST NOT BE USED by the cabin users. Use the above mentioned parking lot. Wrongly parked cars may be ticketed.

By bus it's around two hours to Vinjeøra. Leave the bus at the petrol station and follow the road (see above). Sometimes you have to leave the bus already at the crossing "Stormyra" (where the road to Vinjeøra leaves the one to Kyrksæterøra).

You can also come from Rindal. In winter, this way takes much longer than the other alternative. This trip has no paths or markings, so you will need to be confident with navigating in the mountains to take this trip. If you choose to use snow shoes, the trip is only managable with snow shoes for "mountaineering", not the normal ones for flat areas. An third alternative is to leave the bus at Borstasetra. From here you follow the east side of Ruten to Stakkslettbua. A last alternative is to use your bike to come to Stakkslettbua.
