The project report

Mathematical modeling of flex curves in customized alpine skis using isogeometric analysis

Highlights of main features

  • CAD model in 3D built from scratch with adjustability in mind.
  • Real-world ski components data from laborarory tests.
  • Numerical simulations via the finite element method.
  • Semi-automatic import of arbitrary ski geometries due to the isogeometric analysis approach.

A student modeling project

This webpage presents some details of the outcome of a teamwork project for master students in a course at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway, during the Spring 2014 semester.

With an academic composition consisting of both mathematicians and engineers, the challenging task of modeling flex curves in alpine skis using isogeometric analysis was considered. The course also focused on establishing and understanding the need for interdependent skills and group communication.
