Getting Around

Getting around Trondheim shouldn't be any problem. Everything is mostly within walking distance. If you are staying at our "Student Camp" at Trondheim Vandrerhjem (the youth hostel), it will take approximately 20 minutes to walk to the conference venue. The town centre is situated between these two locations.

Other means of transport

Bus

Team Trafikk is the name of the city's bus company. They have extensive routes which almost always go through the town centre. One way fare is 22 NOK (equivalent of about 3€), and must be paid cash on the bus.

Bus number 63 goes from near Trondheim Vandrerhjem to St. Olavs Hospital.

If you are going to Trondheim Spektrum you can take the 63 bus to Munkegata (town centre) and change to the 5 bus. This will take you to Skansen/Ila and you can cross a pedestrian bridge on your left, over Nidelven, and you are there.

Taxi

Taxis run all day, but are more expensive. Prices are per distance, and an average trip costs 100 NOK (12€).

Bicycle

Trondheim is a bicycle-friendly city. This information may change, but we are currently investigating the following options for this:

  • city bikes: Trondheim's city bikes can be used within the city center, and must be picked up and dropped off in designated stands. To check out the bikes you need an electronic key card. You can get a key card from the Tourist Information in town for a 70 NOK (9€) one-time fee (for the whole time you're here) and a deposit. For the purpose of moving between the Student Camp and the conference venue, city bikes are a good alternative, but will require a couple of minutes' walk in either end. Let us know if you are interested. The number of cards available may be limited, so it would be good to know in advance how many will be needed.
  • rental: The bicycle shop Sykkelsenteret (not a very informative website, unfortunately) rents out bikes; the price is 160 NOK (20€) per day. Please tell us if you are interested, and we can reserve a bike for you. Maybe if several people are interested it is possible to negotiate on the price.

Worth trying: Maybe mostly as a curiosity, Trondheim has the world's only bicycle lift, Trampe. The Tourist Information can get you an access card to that as well.
