All the wood at the cabin is wet, so we recommend bringing your own wood!

We have received some complaints from neighbours at Fosen. Don't walk through private gardens! When walking from the speed boat you need to go up to the main road behind the store. The road along the docks is a dead end and will lead you into private gardens. Try to follow the blue route on the map!

There are many marshes at Fosen. Some people claim maybe that they all look the same and use that as an excuse to explain why they didn't arrive at the cabin before in the middle of the night or maybe not at all! But anyhow: the marches provide many possibilities...

First some history: In 1957 5-6 tones of materials were carried up to the cabin parcel from Aksnes by strong students (400m difference in altitude). The total costs were around 9000 NOK inclusive payment for the carpenter. It was financed by sold shares, gifts and some money from Tapir.

Close to the cabin there are good climbing facilities, why the cabin was a gathering place for the climbing group. When the group got more and more members Fosenkoia was to small, but they found Ravnefjellsbivuakken, a cave where you can sleep dry and warm if not the wind is coming from the wrong side. Nowadays the climbing group has its own cabin, Selneskoia.

Fosenkoia has also been used by many students reading for their exams, not always successful however.

The cabin is equipped with modern gas burners (Optimus Vega).

    Route description

It is not allowed to walk across private property, avoid walking via Bjørgan gård (Bjørgan farm)! Instead, we recommend following the blue route you can see on the map.

You can come to Fosen by the speed boat to Vanvikan or by car ferry from Flakk to Rørvik (goes more frequently). From the speed boat harbour, aim for the industrial area east of Vanvikan. To get to the starting point of the trail leading up the mountain, follow the main road about 350 meter eastwards towards Leksvik. There, take the path up to the left. The start of the trail is marked as an official hiking route, there is also a mark about halfway up and a sign with distances to Munken and Grønliklumpen when the trail comes up to a small road. Parts of this trail are an old trading route that went up to the area before the introduction of cars, it is stony and is itself a cultural monument. You have close contact with the river and the scenery along this trail.

When reaching the small forest road, follow it only about 100 meters eastwards until it's turning left at a small marsh. Cross the march and follow a path until it's ending in a new marsh. From there you have to go through a narrow valley and up the hillside to the right. Follow the marshes eastwards until you reach the lake with the cabin. Used time lies between 39 minutes and 24 hours, but normally it's 1,5 - 2 hours. Another possibility is to take your bike onto the ferry and cycle to Aksnes. From there you can follow a steep path up Munken. From there you can walk down to the cabin.

If you want to Ravnefjell you have to take the road to Storvik, pass Storviksetra and into Kvernavikdalen. From Storvik the trip is taking 1 - 1,5 hours. You can also take a trip from Fosenkoia to Ravnefjell (ca. 30-45 minutes).

    Parking

Summer and winter time: At the industrial area. Be aware of not blocking the road! But really, why would you bring a car in the first place, it's so much easier catching the boat to Vanvikan and walk from there.
