There
is no doubt that the future of our State will and
must greatly depend on the type of education we
give to our children and the way in which we bring
them up as future citizens of Pakistan.

We in PSAiT have the great honour to welcome you as a
new student in Trondheim. We are shure you will as feel home in
a very short time. The studies at NTNU are known to be the best
in Norway in a lot of areas and the student milieu is unique.
You will shortly after the semester start be draged in to
parties and celibrations that have long traditions. We in psait
will have a gettogather short after the semester in september so
that new students get to know us "old" students. The
time and place will be announced. We have listed some links to
sites that could be of interest, made by NTNU, and we have
written some words on our social activites also, ENJOY !.

If you are a new student in Trondheim then we can
ashure you that you have come to the right place. Coming to
a new place and not having your family and old friends
around, can be exiting but at the same time lonely. Have
patience ! There are lot of people that are, and have been,
in the same situation as you. You have now come to an alian
enviroment where you will have to feel content so that your
studies will go good. Maybe it's the first time you are far
away from home and have to manage yourself and take descions
by your own ? Its fun having freedom and making own descions.
There a lot of things you are going to learn beside your
studies in managing your life. You will meet a lot of
different people and some of them will become your friends.
You will learn to cook and do "the food shoping"
that your "mom" and "dad" did at home.
You will have a lot of money at your hand and will have to
make budgets so that you don't go "broke" at the
end of the semester. You have to make descions on what you
need and what you dont need to spend money on. All these
thing will learn you to solve mysteries of life. This will
make you grown up and you will learn what the life really
is. Nobody can solve your problems; you have to solve them
by your own. We at PSAiT will be glad to help you in solving
your problems and meeting your challenges as far as we can.
There are some topics that we have listed beneeth that could
be of interest and will guide and help you on your way to
feel as home in Trondheim with your new friends.
Student
Samskipnaden i Trondheim. has 1200 "hybler"
(small appartments) at Moholt and some hundreds at Berg and
Steinan. These "hybles" are not so far from NTNU
facilities. The closest to NTNU at Gloshaugen (The old
NIT/NTH) is Lerkendal and Berg studentby. It takes about
8-10 minutes to walk to the University. Moholt Studentby is
best situated for people going to NTNU at Dragvoll. It takes
about 20-25 minutes to get to Dragvoll and Gloshaugen from
Moholt and Steinan Studenby. You have to be a student in
Trondheim and a member of Stundent Samskipnaden i Trondheim
to apply for these hybels. In the summer (July-August) SiT
draws tickets on who will get the hybels of the new students
starting in september. If you are not among the lucky ones,
you have to arange a private appartement by your own. It is
difficult to get a private hybel shortly before the semester
starts in september, because there are thousand of people
searching for a place to live at the same time. Therefore
its wise to come here some weeks in advance (5-10 August) to
arrange an appartement. You can find private appartements in
adds in the local paper "Adresseavisen" and maybe
SiT at "Gamle Kjemi"(Gloshaugen NTNU) can help
you. Psait members will be glad to share their hybels /small
apartements (10m2) with you some days during your search for
a place to live.
There is no straight answer to how to plan your
economy, studies and the time you should spend on social
activities. Everybody is unique and has different needs and
goals. We can give you some hints on what we think is
important but you have to make your own strategies. Its wise
to write down how much you want to spend ein a week, month
and smester. What you want to spend the money on and how
much you have to spend on each thing. Probably its wise to
divide the money you "have to" spend in
"elementary" and the money you "just
spend" that are "luxary". In the elementery
comes things that are essential like house rent, power,
telephone, healthy food, other house holdings, study
material and voyage expenses. In the luxary we can have
anything from "party (junk) food", unessesary
voyage expenses (taking the bus when you can walk), cinema
visits, restaurant and pizzeria visits, parties, other
equipment (CD, TV, Music Deck) etc. It will be difficult to
give an estimate of what the expenses wil be, but based on
experiences it will probably lie between 3000-4000 for a
thin, "namazi" and not social pakistani who lives
at the poorest district of Trondheim.
Since you have managed to come to NTNU, we predict that
you are familiar with how to study. A University study is
though different from a College/High schol study. Here
nobody has the responisbilty for you and nobody will ask you
and give you critic. Therefore its important to take and
drag your own ear from time to time ! You have to take the
responsibility of your study on your own. Its not a bad idea
to make a "battle plan" on how much time you can
manage and want to afford on your studies. What your goals
are and what you want from you studies. How many efficient
houres you are going to spend on working, relaxing,
sleeping, sports, freetime and on social activites from day
to day and in a week for example. After making such a plan
you have to be honest and implement it. A plan without
implementation is worth nothing. Its important to know that
such plans are not static but dynamic and you have to
upgrade them from time to time. We hope you will succide. We
will remind you that its very difficult to live without
social activites and just thinkig of studies. Here you are
living alone without your family, and because of that, you
will need somebody to talk to from time to time. Its not a
bad idea to make some friends who you can have fun together
with. The best thing is to find "The Goldan Middle
Way" between the studies and the social activities. We
hope you will succide in finding the right path.
