The wood is at the summer parking lot, and should be carried to the cabin.

NB: The sauna was damaged due to fire on March 1st, and is therefore closed. The cabin itself is unharmed and is open for reservations.

There is currently no boat at Flåkoia, as we are in the process of repairing it.

A night in February 1984 there was a fire at the Store Damvatnet. A sad view was welcoming some AVH-students a few weeks later: a deformed stove stood there alone in the forest, covered by some centimetres of snow. The tragedy was a fact: the Flåkoia from 1968 had burnt down.

Already in the autumn of the same year students started to rebuild the cabin and in February 1986 there was a big "cabinwarming party" in a splendid log cabin with grass roof. The Flåkoia is standing on an idyllic place at the north side of the lake, so you will be able to cool down after using the sauna that was built during summer 2011. AVHI has fishing rights, boat and fishing net are at the cabin. Flåkoia has 11 sleeping places.

At Flåkoia you can sit on the roof and philosophise, drink beer, search for berries and mushrooms in the surroundings or enjoy the summer sun. During wintertime there are good ice fishing possibilities there, you can find an ice drill at the cabin.

    Route description

The most common route is via the road to Samsjøen from Lundamo, where you also have to leave the bus. When you reach the toll plaza on this road you have gone too far. Directly behind a fish farm you have to leave the road to the left over a bridge and go up to the farm Breidlia. Follow this road for about 2km, you pass a "ferist" and a big steel garage. From the parking place at the earlier power line masts (there is only some concrete and fence left) it is an easy trip along Talbergåsen to Damvatnet. There is now a road continuing completely inn to the lake. This road meets the main road ca. 50 meters from the power line masts (U-turn) and is marked "Ordertjernåsen". It is in relatively bad condition and not recommended for people with new cars. Remember to pay road toll for this road.

If you go by skis it is easiest to follow the marshes directly northwards where the way is, before you swing to the northwest until you meet the lake. Don't cross the ice if you are not sure that it is thick enough and be careful at the outlet.

During winter the road is normally broached until the steel garage. You are allowed to park there only during the weekends. Show respect and do not block the garages!

    Parking

Summer time: Parking at the earlier power line masts or in the end of the road, close to the cabin.
Winter time: Park at the bridge, before the road leads uphill towards the forest. It is possible to drive further up, but it demands good driving conditions on the road, and a suitable car. If so, you can continue up the road, and park next to the steel garage.
