International Office. They are the official contact point for exchange students in Norway.

How to arrive to Moholt studentby/Steinan studentby from the airport or railway station?
Trondheim airport – Værnes is located ca. 35 km from Trondheim – on the coast deeper along the Trondheim fjord. There is a fast bus (on a highway) and train connection between the airport and city centre. The bus trip takes 35 minutes (to the city border) and ca. 50 minutes to the last stop at Lerkendal, next to the stadium of the most famous football club RBK, which is quite close to the NTNU Gløshaugen campus. The price of the bus (for train is the same) is currently (January 2012) 70,- NOK for students – you need to pay cash to the driver after you get on the bus. There is a bank machine at the airport where you can get cash any time of the day using a card (VISA etc). Each plane has a connecting bus, but if you arrive late at night, make sure you don’t spend too much time at the airport because you can miss the last bus. From Lerkendal it is possible to walk up to Moholt student town in ca. 25 minutes, but it’s uphill – and if you take this option, you better ask the locals to show you the way. A probably better option is to get off the bus in the centre at Trondheim Torg and take the bus number 5 or 66 to Moholt, or number 52 to Steinan. Ask the bus driver to tell you where to get off, the ticket currently (January 2012) costs 30 NOK. You can always take a taxi, which are abundant in Trondheim – call for example 08000 or 07373 (from abroad: +47 930 07373, by e-mail: flytaxi (at) trondertaxi.no). Most likely you need to get the key from the reception at Moholt, for their openning times and other info (mostly in Norwegian) check the
homepage of SiT. Please make sure that you check out also the useful
instructions of the NTNU International Office, they also have some maps of Trondheim online. To learn about the local bus routes, lookup the
atb web pages.
If you arrive to Trondheim by train, you can either take almost any bus that goes to the centre, or walk to the centre, where you can get on the correct bus (5, 66 or 52) – it takes only 5-10 minutes to walk to the centre. You can use the same bus ticket within 1 hour even if you change the buses.
How do I get information about doing a PhD at the University of Trondheim (NTNU)?
The answer depends on how far you are in your preparation. If you are starting you can ask the
International Office of course. But you could also check out from
PhD opportunities, and find your specific area and a possible professor as a supervisor. For stipends, one of the possibilities is the
research council of Norway.
Why should I have an International Student Identity Card (ISIC)?
You can get travel discount on many trips within/to/from Norway. We recommend you to get one before you leave your home country, it should be possible though your university or some travel agencies. For more information you can check the ISIC website
www.isic.org. The ISIC card is issued by the UNESCO and gives you interesting prices all over the world on travels, mensas, cultural events…. If you cannot get one from your home university, another possibility is to ask your contactperson at the NTNU to get a card of this university in advance. Once in Trondheim, you can buy the ISIC card for ca. 70 NOK from the air travel agency Kilrøytravels.
Where is this ISU-basement? Everywhere it says HK24. What is that?
The ISU-basement is located in the Moholt student village in the house Herman Krags vei 24. When you’re coming out of Bunn Pris at the reception, then turn to your left and follow the street about 50 meters until you see the number 24 on your left hand side. There go through the door, turn to the right and go downstairs. There you are.
